Ok, so going through my journal on the No Poo thing, and from day 7 to day 30, it says the same thing over and over and over. I decided to condense it.
My hair is gross. It feels waxy. I did some research. Short hair seems to fare better with No Poo. Grr... I have long, VERY thick hair. I'm really a bad candidate for this. I'm tired of yucky. So....After 1 month, I'm done. It doesn't matter how much money I save. My hair feels worse after 2 hours with baking soda than it does after 3 days with regular shampoo. Even after giving it a full month.
Conclusion: This is a no go for me.
On to bigger and better things.

No Poo: Days 4, 5, & 6
Day 4: Did not wash. Just rinsed with REALLY HOT water.
So far: All seems well.
Day 5: Washed with Baking soda & AC Vinegar. My hair is Nasty waxy again. But no flakes!
So far: I'm not sure when the wax thing is going to stop?
Day 6: Washed with Baking soda and AC Vinegar. Still Waxy. Did some research. "ONLY use the vinegar on the ENDS of hair or it makes it waxy" hmmmm... perhaps that will solve a problem.
So far: I wish I had read that before I started this whole thing. Or at least before I washed my hair again this morning. grrr.

No Poo: day 3
Well, it's been 3 days. And do I ever have a surprise! I dyed my hair to get rid of some overgrown "roots" issues from letting someone 'practice' highlights on my in September. AND...
So far: I love it! ~and the peasants rejoice~
I NO LONGER HAVE ANY FLAKES!!!!!!I also finally got some apple cider vinegar and switched to that. Maybe that was all it took? 3 days, sweet! And my hair feels like hair again. No more waxified straw.

No Poo: Day 2
I used the baking soda again. WAY more this time. I still haven't made it to the store to pick up the apple cider vinegar so I'm still using the white vinegar.
Today my hair felt ~WEIRD.~ It was "waxy" (like I had melted beeswax on it) up near the roots. And straw-like on the ends. It looked pretty much awful.
I hate that I'm not a quitter.
So far: not a fan.

No Poo: Day 1
Well here goes.
If you found this post and have no idea what I'm talking about, you can read about that here.
I decided to start today, but didn't have any apple cider vinegar so I used my squirt bottle of straight white vinegar. I did that while under the shower in hopes that it would dilute it a bit. I wasn't sure if it had to be ACV or if I could just use the plain stuff. Not quite sure how to tell if I have enough of the baking soda stuff on my roots or not.
By the end of the day, my hair felt like I hadn't even washed it. at all.
so far: not impressed.

No Poo?
Say what? No poo is a method of not using standard shampoo on your hair. I am going to be chronicling my "no poo experience."
So here's a quick rundown.
I have had really really bad dandruff my entire life. My mom claims that it's still the cradle cap I had as an infant. And she's serious. (uff da!) I tried everything. I did head and shoulders, T-gel, pine tar, you name it. If it said reduces flaking, I tried it.
I was having my hair cut and asked my beautician what I could possibly do to get rid of this dandruff problem. She told me it wasn't dandruff but that it was shampoo build-up. I needed to use a clarifying shampoo about once a week. So....I did. No change. Twice a week: still no change. Then I used it every single day for 2 weeks straight.
flakes: YES
hair: straw
overall rating: ARGH!
It didn't work. So I went on switching shampoo every month. Then every week. It got to the point where I was switching shampoos every wash. That got really expensive REALLY fast. Thank goodness I had been in a couple of product research programs and they sent me some shampoo to review.
That is what got me to thinking, "There must be a cheaper way to make this work." Enter my good friend, Google. A quick search landed me on this whole "no poo" thing. I found about a bajillion ecoblogs journalling their no poo journey. So, I know this idea about writing it all out isn't new.
The recipe is simple
Most of the others said their hair had to go through a "transistion period" in which their hair was gross for anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month.

shampoo
1T baking soda
1c water
Mix well and pour some onto your roots. Massage in, leave on for a few minutes, rinse out.
conditionerSounds easy enough. I did have a couple of questions, but those will come out in my next few posts.
1 part Apple Cider Vinegar
3 parts water
Spray on ends after cleansing, rinse out.
